Our guests included Mestre Angola, Mestre Amem, Contra-Mestre Jim, Dr. Bryan Kennedy (AFT-Wisconsin), and Dr. Simone Ferro (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee).

Our event began on Tuesday, May 20, in Pasadena. Mestre Angola lead a Capoeira Angola class, which ended in roda. We were honored to have Mestre Amem and his students participate in the evening event. On Wednesday, the members of our organization travelled to Kenosha, where Mestre Angola and Contra-Mestre Jim gave class in movement and music, respectively. There was a free Capoeira class offered by Mestre Angola exclusively for children at the United Community Center in Milwaukee on the following evening. One question by a student on Saturday led to an extensitve answer by Mestre Angola and ended up being the focus of the entire 4-hour class. The focus was on the differences of Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Regional.

The event concluded on Sunday, May 25, 2008 in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Greene Hall. Dr. Simone Ferro and husband honored us with their presence. She spoke about the various projects (including Bumba-Meu-Boi in Sao Luiz, Maranhao) in which she is involved. The The Associação de Capoeira Corpo e Movimento offered a Capoeira presentation shortly after. Finally, Dr. Bryan Kennedy gave an interesting paper on the topic of Capoeira Angola and Capoeira Regional. The event was a great success.

Capoeira Consagra Sua Ginga
