Independence of Bahia

Capoeiras participated in the Independence of Bahia in 1823. In 2011, Mestre Pelé da Bomba lead the Associação Brasileira de Capoeira Angola (ABCA) in the July 2nd procession celebrating the independence of Bahia.

ASSOCIACAO DE CAPOEIRA ANGOLA CORPO E MOVIMENTO (ACACM) celebrated 12 years of Capoeira Angola in Milwaukee and Los Angeles on May 13-15, 2011. The weekend conference entitled “Capoeira Angola E Tudo O Que A Boca Come” featured presentations about African-Brazilian culture, Capoeira Angola and musical instrument making seminars, performances, and more.

CAPOEIRA ANGOLA CORPO E MOVIMENTO of Milwaukee welcomed Brazilian Master Choreographer, Luiz Badaró, and Contra-Mestre Jim on October 8-10, 2010. The series of workshops began with a special workshop sponsored by UW-Milwaukee and Ko-Thi Dance Company. The weekend activities included classes in dance (Samba de Roda & Orixá), music (Samba de Roda), and Capoeira Angola.

CAPOEIRA ANGOLA CORPO E MOVIMENTO will host Capoeira Angola workshops Sept. 26-27, 2009. Capoeira master and founder of the Milwaukee Capoeira academy, Contra-Mestre Jim will lead a series of workshops which will include instruction in the martial art/dance techniques, music, history and tradition of Capoeira Angola.

All are welcome and no prior experience is necessary.
