Residency Program
Our residency program aligns our dance, music, and multicultural workshops to state standards in the core academic areas of social studies, history, geography, science, math, art, music, physical education, and life skills. The residency program is designed with local teachers to complement the current curriculum.
The classes are offered during regular school hours and at school sites. The students learn basic warm-up exercises, stretches, movements of Capoeira Angola, and a few traditional Capoeira songs in Portuguese. The classes require student participation in the terms of discipline, respect, creativity, and motivation.
The class culminates with a school performance that requires students to apply what they have learned in the classes. Students leave the residency program with more than just knowledge of Brazilian culture, dance, and music; they acquire valuable leadership qualities and heightened levels of self-esteem.
